There was a huge uproar after stone pelting on Ganesh Puja pandal in Syedpura, Surat. Thousands of people from Hindu community, angry with the incident, surrounded the police station. During this, slogans of ‘Yogi-Yogi’ were also raised there. On social media too, people are demanding bulldozer action from the government like UP. Surat Police has arrested 27 accused in the operation conducted overnight.
Ganesh Puja was organized in the Muslim dominated Syedpura’s Variavi Lal Gate area. According to Desh Gujarat’s report, on Sunday some boys from the Muslim community arrived here in an auto with stones and started pelting stones on the pandal. The local people caught two of them and handed them over to the police. After the news of stone pelting on the Ganesh pandal, communal tension arose in the area.
A large number of people gathered outside the Syedpura police station. People sat on the road and started shouting slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. During this, some vehicles were also damaged. The police tried to control the crowd by using mild force. The Police Commissioner, the city mayor and the local MLA reached the spot and tried to calm the people. MLA Kanti Balar addressed the people. During this, people kept shouting slogans of ‘Yogi-Yogi’.
Demand on social media too
A large number of people are also demanding strict action on social media in the Surat incident. Tagging Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi and Gujarat Police, people are demanding bulldozer action by citing the example of UP CM Yogi Adityanath. A Surat user tagged Gujarat Police and wrote, ‘Run bulldozers on the houses of those who pelted stones during Ganesh ji’s festival in Surat, otherwise the situation here in Gujarat will become like Bangladesh, Bhupendra Bhai Sahab should be strict like Yogi.’ Another user, while replying to the post of state Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi, wrote, ‘Jihadi elements are raising their heads in Gujarat, it has to be stopped, in Yogi style.’
