After stone pelting on Lord Ganesh’s pandal in Surat city of Gujarat, now two communities clashed in Bharuch city over installation of religious flags. Two people were injured in the violent clash between the two communities. Police have registered a case and detained 17 people of the other community.
Police said on Wednesday that two people were injured in a violent clash between people of two communities over the issue of hoisting religious flags in an area of Bharuch city of Gujarat. They said that 17 people have been detained in connection with the incident that took place in Gokul Nagar area on Tuesday night. Police reached the spot and dispersed the rioters. The situation is under control at present.
Bharuch Superintendent of Police Mayur Chavda said people from both sides gathered in large numbers and then pelted stones at each other. Two people were injured in the stone pelting and some vehicles parked there were damaged. Chavda said based on a complaint lodged by members of one community, the police registered an FIR and detained 17 people from the other community involved in the violence. “The situation is under control at the moment,” he said.
The officer said that on Tuesday night, a dispute broke out between people of two different religions in Gokul Nagar over the issue of putting up religious flags in the area. Our teams immediately reached the spot and dispersed the crowd. Gokul Nagar is an area with a mixed population. The situation turned tense when some members of one community started putting up religious flags and banners in the area at night in view of the upcoming Eid-e-Milad.
