Ahmed Tumhari Reena; Complaint of a father in MP- Third grade book promotes ‘love jihad’

In Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, a parent has lodged a written complaint with the police alleging that NCERT’s environment book promotes love jihad. It is alleged that a third class book contains material that encourages ‘love jihad’.

In Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, a parent has given a written complaint to the police accusing NCERT’s environment book of love jihad. A person named Dr. Raghav Pathak has alleged that a third class book has something that encourages ‘love jihad’. He says that in the chapter named ‘Chithi Aayi Hai’ in the environment book, a girl named Reema invites Ahmed to come to Agartala during the holidays and at the end writes ‘Aapki Reena’.

‘Love Jihad will get a boost’

Raghav Pathak has lodged his objection by giving a written complaint application to the Khajuraho SDOP. Raghav Pathak says that his daughter studies in class 3. On page number 17 of the NCERT environment book, a girl named Reena writes a letter to a boy named Ahmed and at the end of the letter she writes that your Reena. He said, ‘I have strong objection to this. A Hindu girl is writing a letter to a Muslim boy and at the end she introduces herself as his, this clearly shows that the attraction towards love jihad will increase in the minds of young children. Incidents like love jihad will increase in the coming times.’

Pathak says that on one hand the government is making strict laws to stop incidents like love jihad and on the other hand this book of NCERT is promoting love jihad. He said that the names of the characters in the story should be changed or the story should be removed from the book. He said, ‘I am also a father and my daughter is reading this book. I do not want any kind of wrong feeling to arise in her mind.’

Complaint has been sent to senior officials

In this case, Khajuraho SDOP Sunil Sharma says that Dr. Raghav Pathak has filed a complaint against NCERT’s environment book accusing it of promoting love jihad. Since the matter is related to the textbook, this application has been sent to senior officials and further action will be taken under the guidance of senior officials.
