Congress suffered a major setback on Thursday immediately after the Haryana Assembly elections. Former minister Captain Ajay Singh Yadav resigned from the primary membership of Congress alleging bad behaviour. While resigning, he said that after Sonia Gandhi stepped down from the post of Congress President, he was disillusioned with the party high command due to the poor treatment he received. Now the resignation of the President of OBC Department of Congress has given a big blow to the oldest party of the country.
Ajay Singh Yadav, a six-time Congress MLA, was the national president of the party’s OBC department. His son Chiranjeev Rao lost to BJP’s Laxman Singh Yadav in Rewari by over 28,000 votes. Let us tell you that he was a strong contender for the party ticket from Gurugram parliamentary constituency, but Congress fielded Bollywood actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar. He lost to BJP’s Rao Inderjit.
“If Ajay Singh Yadav’s resignation is accepted, it will be a big blow to the Congress as it is struggling to strengthen its base in the region,” The Tribune quoted political observer Ajay Kumar as saying. ” Naresh Chauhan, another political analyst, said, “His resignation from the party will definitely affect Congress’ prospects in Ahirwal. There is a need to assess what forced him to resign.”
Tagging Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, Ajay Singh Yadav said on Twitter, “This decision to resign was really difficult because my family had a connection of 70 years. My father late Rao Abhay Singh became MLA in 1952 and after that I continued the family tradition, but I have become disillusioned with the party high command due to the poor treatment I received after Sonia Gandhi stepped down from the post of Congress President.
Yadav is the third prominent leader to leave the Congress in the last few years. The other two leaders include Kuldeep Bishnoi and Kiran Choudhary and both of them are now in BJP.
Ajay Singh Yadav had recently said that the tussle in Haryana Congress over becoming the Chief Minister before getting the mandate was a big mistake. He had said that the Congress should introspect for its failure in southern Haryana, especially in Gurugram, Rewari, Mahendragarh and Faridabad, where the BJP won 10 out of 11 seats while the Congress won only one seat.
It is believed that Ajay Singh Yadav was unhappy with his party over the selection of several candidates for the Haryana elections.
