The issue of ‘one country one election’ is being talked about in the country. The central government including PM Narendra Modi is emphasizing on this and brainstorming is going on. But meanwhile the country is busy in elections. The results of Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana assembly elections came only on Tuesday and now the new round of elections can be announced within a week. According to the information received so far, announcement of assembly elections from Maharashtra to Jharkhand can be made any time till October 18. Along with this, by-elections can be held on 50 seats in the country including UP, Bengal, Assam and Rajasthan.
The tenure of Maharashtra Assembly is till 26 November. In such a situation, the new state government should be formed before this. Apart from this, the Maharashtra government has appealed that elections should be organized only after November 15. This is because there are elections on 31st October and then there are other festivals for the next few days. Not only this, Dev Diwali is also celebrated on a large scale. Therefore elections should be held only after 15th November. In such a situation, the Election Commission will have only a few days time and it will have to somehow conduct the voting by November 20 so that a new government can be formed in the next few days.
For this, elections can be held in Maharashtra in a single round. Generally, elections in the state are held in several rounds. But this time the police administration and the government claim that we will conduct elections in one round only. There will also be strong security arrangements for this. In fact, in Maharashtra also in 2019, voting was held in a single round. Along with Maharashtra, elections can also be held in Jharkhand. However, there is still time for Jharkhand and the tenure of the current assembly there is till January 5.
Apart from these, the Commission will also have to conduct by-elections for 50 seats. In fact, many people have become MPs in the 18th Lok Sabha, who were MLAs. According to the rules, elections should be held on vacant seats within 6 months. In this regard, new members should be elected on the vacant seats by November. Talking about vacant seats, maximum 10 seats are vacant in UP, 6 in Bengal, 5 each in Assam and Rajasthan. Apart from this, 4 seats each are vacant in Bihar and Rajasthan. There are also three seats vacant in states like Karnataka and Kerala. The interesting thing is that after these elections, preparations for elections will start in Delhi also. The tenure of the assembly there is only till 5th February.
