Mumbai Police on Wednesday arrested another accused, Amit Hisamsingh Kumar, in the murder case of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui. Amit Kumar, 29, is a resident of Nathwan Patti in Kaithal district of Haryana. With this arrest, a total of 11 accused have been detained so far in the case. On Sunday, the police arrested a scrap dealer Bhagwat Singh Om Singh from Navi Mumbai in this case. Om Singh is a resident of Udaipur, Rajasthan and is accused of providing weapons to those who killed NCP leader Baba Siddiqui on October 12.
Baba Siddiqui was murdered by three assailants outside the office of his son Zeeshan Siddiqui. Police have so far arrested two shooters – Gurmail Baljeet Singh (23) and Dharamraj Rajesh Kashyap (19). The main shooter Shivkumar Gautam and two other people involved in the murder conspiracy are still absconding. The police is busy investigating this murder case and the search for the absconding accused is going on.

The three attackers involved in the murder of Baba Siddiqui had practiced firing near a waterfall in Raigarh district before carrying out the murder. Police officials gave this information on Tuesday citing their investigation. The crime branch of the city police, which is probing the October 12 murder, said that interrogation of the arrested accused revealed that arrested attackers Dharamraj Kashyap, Gurmail Singh and absconding Shivkumar Gautam had committed suicide in Mumbai in September, a police official said. The firing practice was conducted near a waterfall in Palasdhari under Karjat tehsil on the outskirts. He said that the shooters practiced firing after seeing a deserted place near the waterfall.
He said a five-member Thane-based betel nut gang led by Nitin Sapre and Ram Kanojia was initially entrusted with the murder of former Maharashtra minister Siddiqui (66). According to the officer, the pistol used in the crime was brought by Kanojia and another accused Bhagwat Singh Om Singh from Rajasthan. He said the gang backed out of the contract due to disagreements over the demand of Rs 50 lakh for carrying out the crime and the influence of the late politician, but decided to provide logistics and other support to carry out the attack.
