Gandhinagar: After heavy rains in Gujarat, rivers are overflowing in many areas, leading to flood-like situation. The gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the state Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for the second consecutive day and took stock of the situation. He also asked the Chief Minister to take appropriate steps to prevent the spread of diseases after the floods. Amidst all these difficulties, the Indian Army is working with full force to ease the difficulties of the people.
8 army contingents were deployed
Let us tell you that in line with its determination to mitigate the difficulties faced by the local people during natural disasters, the Indian Army launched flood relief operations in several districts of Gujarat. Following the request of the Gujarat civil administration, the Army deployed 8 contingents to assist in relief operations. These teams are providing vital humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in Vadodara, Jamnagar, Dwarka, Rajkot, Morbi and Bhuj. Apart from manpower and flood relief equipment, these specialist teams include engineering resources and medical expertise.

Let us tell you that Vadodara has been most affected due to the rapid rise in the water level of Vishwamitri river. The Indian Army has successfully evacuated more than 200 people from flood-affected areas to safer places and provided essential food supplies including ready-to-eat food. To ensure the well-being of the affected people, the Army has conducted door-to-door medical checkups and distributed essential medicines. The rescue and relief efforts are aimed at restoring normalcy amid incessant rains and rising water levels. The Indian Army is constantly helping the local administration to restore essential services as soon as possible.
There was heavy rain in many areas
Let us tell you that Bhanvad in Devbhoomi Dwarka district recorded 295 mm of rain in the 24-hour period ending at 6 am, while Abdasa in Kutch received 276 mm and Kalyanpur received 263 mm of rain. According to official data, 20 talukas of Gujarat received more than 100 mm of rain during this period. At the same time, Mandvi taluka of Kutch received 101 mm of rain in four hours till 10 am. At least 26 people have died in accidents caused by rain in Gujarat.
