Assam News: A religious sensitive material, allegedly cattle meat and severed limbs, have spread in a temple complex in Dhubri town of Assam on Monday. This is the third such incident in the last few days, causing angry locals to take to the streets and started protests on a large scale. In view of the seriousness of the situation, the district administration has imposed curfew in the entire Dhubri Town area with immediate effect.
Offensive material recovery in temple premises
According to local sources, dissatisfaction was flourishing since the banned substance was found in a temple located in ward number 3. A large crowd gathered in the area after the incident came to light on Monday. Angry protesters raised slogans demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. Police and senior officials immediately reached the spot, but faced heavy opposition from the protesters. The local Hindu community has demanded that the banned object will not be removed from the temple until the convicts are arrested.
Quick action of administration: appeal for curfew and peace
In order to control the situation and maintain law and order, the District Commissioner of Dhubri has issued a curfew order under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code 2023. According to this order, all shops and markets in Dhubri Town area will remain closed till further orders. Also, five or more people gather together, any type of public meeting, rally, procession or performance have been banned.
However, emergency services like medical, fire, police, army and electricity departments have been exempted from this ban. The district administration has appealed people to maintain peace and ignore rumors. Citizens have been urged to believe only official information and to give information about any kind of anti -social activities to the administration.
Chief Minister’s strict stand and action on illegal activities
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a tough stand on this sensitive issue. He informed on Sunday that before Eid-ul-Azha, the organs of cattle have been recovered at many places in Assam, including Cotton University (Kamrup), Dhubri, Hozai, Sri Bhoomi (Bagragul) and Karimganj districts. The Chief Minister reiterated that the administration is fully committed to maintain law and order in the state. He said that 16 people have been arrested in cases of illegal sales of beef and violation of cattle protection act till now (9 from Cachar and 7 from Sri Bhumi). Apart from this, five illegal slaughter sites in Cachar and Karimganj have also been disclosed and closed.
It is important to note that under the Assam Cattle Protection Act 2021, there is a ban on slaughter and beef sale of cattle within a radius of 5 km from temples and Vaishnavas sessions, which has later been amended and banned on public consumption of beef. The current situation in Dhubri is very stressful, and administration is conducting a lot of stress, and the administration is investigating the guilty. This incident not only hurts the religious sentiments of a community, but is also a challenge for social harmony. In such a situation, all sections of the society have been appealed to be restrained and maintained peaceful environment.
