A shocking incident has come to light in Rajkot city of Gujarat, where nine members of a jeweler’s family tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticide. According to reports, this jeweler has to recover about 2 crore rupees from some businessmen of Mumbai but they are not paying, due to which this family has come into financial crisis. Giving information about this, a police officer said on Saturday that this incident happened in Gundawadi area, where nine members of the Adesara family tried unsuccessfully to commit suicide on Friday night.
Explaining the reason for the suicide attempt, Bhaktinagar police station inspector Mayurdhwaj Sarvaiya said that the Adesara family had sold 3 kg gold jewellery worth about Rs 2 crore to two Mumbai businessmen last year. The businessmen have not paid the money yet. In such a situation, the Adesara family took this step after being upset with this fraud. However, after this they themselves called the ambulance, after which they were taken to the hospital, where everyone’s condition is stable.
Police said that an 8-year-old child and a 67-year-old woman were among those who consumed pesticides. Family member and partner in the jewellery business Ketan Adesara, while informing the media about the case, said, ‘The Mumbai traders had promised to pay for the jewellery by Diwali 2023, but they have not paid the money yet. In such a situation, this family itself has become a victim of financial crisis and is unable to repay the installments of their bank loan. After which, the whole family got upset and dared to take such a big step together.
While giving information about this, the businessman who tried to commit suicide said, ‘Two businessmen from Mumbai who are partners of each other, started buying gold jewellery from me after winning my trust. Initially, they kept making payments on time, but later slowly they started taking loans and borrowed gold jewellery worth two crore rupees from me. Now they are not giving me my money. In such a situation, troubled by the financial crisis, we thought of committing suicide.’
Police officer Sarvaiya said that a case of fraud will be registered against the accused businessmen from Mumbai in this case. He also said that a station diary has been registered at Bhaktinagar police station regarding the suicide attempt.
