According to media reports, the Central Election Committee of Congress can approve the names of the wrestlers on Wednesday or Thursday. The party said that the candidature of both the wrestlers is likely to be announced soon. Earlier today, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat met former Congress President and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in Delhi. This matter is pending in the Delhi court. Bajrang Punia also supported both the wrestlers and he also joined the protest. Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling after being disqualified in the 50 kg gold medal match of Paris Olympics 2024. However, Vinesh later changed her mind. Election date changed, now voting will happen on this day

Earlier this election was to be held on 1 October and the result was to come on 4 October, but in view of the holidays falling in between, the Election Commission of India changed the date of assembly elections and kept it on 8 October.
