West Bengal Teachers Recruitment Scam: More than 25,000 teachers who lost jobs in West Bengal are upset. Due to this, education system in state schools has also been shaken. Last week, the Supreme Court upheld the Calcutta High Court’s decision to cancel the appointments of more than 25,000 teachers and employees. The court had said that the entire recruitment process was disturbed. Now Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has met teachers who lost their jobs on this matter.
Mamta Banerjee disagreeed on the decision of the court
Mamta Banerjee on Monday met people who lost their jobs as teaching and non-teaching employees in government and aided schools. During this, he said that a conspiracy is being done to end the education system in the state. Mamta said that teachers of class 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th prepare students for higher education. This is happening to them. There are many teachers who are gold medals. He has achieved a lot in his life and you are calling him a thief? You are disabling them, who gave you this right? After all, who is playing this game…?
On this matter, a teacher said that people who have cheated the examination should be put in jail. We have come here after passing the exam with hard work. Interviews have been selected again. But why are we getting punished? Similarly, other teachers have also expressed disagreement with the decision of the court.
Children’s education in Bengal is affecting
According to media reports, the court’s decision on many schools in Bengal is seeing a serious impact. Because there are no teachers to teach girl students in school. Vishal Tiwari, Headmaster of Bansberia Ganga High School in Hooghly district, says that the teachers whose appointments have been canceled by the court, 3 are teachers of life science and 2 math. Suddenly 15 of the 41 employees of the school went away, due to which it has become very difficult to run the school. Please tell that in Bengal, this problem is not of any one school, but in many schools.
What is education recruitment scam case?
In 2016, the West Bengal government recruited more than 25,000 teachers and non-teaching employees for government and aided schools. But these recruitments were accused of irregularity, corruption and bribery. When the matter reached the Calcutta High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was ordered to investigate. In this case, the CBI arrested former state education minister Partha Chatterjee, his close Arpita Mukherjee and other officials.
While hearing the case, the Calcutta High Court canceled the appointment of teachers in April 2024. Even the court had ordered everyone to return the salary. After which others including West Bengal government reached the Supreme Court. Now on April 3, 2025, the Supreme Court also upheld the decision to cancel the appointments of the teachers of the Calcutta High Court, but did not say anything about the salary withdrawal. However, this decision of the Supreme Court is not happy Mamata Banerjee and the teacher.
