Bangalore Stampede Case: There was a stampede during the sports festival on June 4 outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. It had traumatic death of 11 people and injured more than 50. Taking administrative action, the central government has approved the suspension of three senior IPS officers. Bangalore Police Commissioner B.A. Dayanand, Additional Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Vikas Kumar and DCP Central Shekhar are included.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) took place on June 4, a day after winning the IPL title. Thousands of fans then gathered outside the stadium to welcome the team. The crowd became uncontrollable and stampede due to the organizers not making proper arrangements and the police administration failed to control the crowd. Initial investigation revealed that the organizers did not follow the conditions of permission. Along with that, the presence of the police force was insufficient. On this basis, the state government took the entire matter seriously and suspended five officers.
Three of them were IPS rank officers. The state government sent the recommendation of suspension to the Union Home Ministry within 15 days. The central government has made the suspension effective by giving formal approval. The central government has also directed the Karnataka government to file a charge sheet against the officials concerned within 30 days. Meanwhile, suspended Additional Commissioner of Police Vikas Kumar has appealed against this action to the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).
The suspension of IPS officers is not considered complete only by the order of the state government. For this, the approval of the Central Government is necessary. The initial period of suspension is 30 days which can be extended to a maximum of 120 days. For this, provided the center time acceptance. The officer has to restore if the Center does not get approval. At the same time, the opposition parties also targeted the state government and said that only blaming the police is a unilateral step and complete accountability should be ensured.
