Security forces have achieved a major success in Jammu and Kashmir. Two terrorists have been arrested in Poonch based on special intelligence in a joint operation between Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu and Kashmir Police. During this operation, security forces have recovered a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and grenades, which has dealt a deep blow to the terrorist network.
According to official sources, both the arrested terrorists were involved in several terrorist activities. These include serious crimes like grenade attacks on religious places and hospitals, terrorist funding, terrorist propaganda and arms smuggling. Security forces said the action has also dealt a major blow to terrorists’ financing and arms supply.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Jammu division Anand Jain said that the arrest of Abdul Aziz and Manwar Hussain from Hari village is a ‘huge achievement’ for the security agencies. On Friday, police along with 37 Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) conducted a joint operation and nabbed Aziz, the ADGP told reporters in Poonch. Two hand grenades were found from him. He said that during the investigation, another hand grenade was found from his house. His accomplice Hussain was also arrested with a pistol, a magazine and nine cartridges.
The operation was led by the White Knight Corps, which has been playing a key role in counter-terrorism operations in the region. After this success, security forces have increased vigilance in the area and other possible terrorist hideouts are being kept under surveillance. This operation is being seen by the security agencies as a major achievement towards maintaining peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jain said, “Both were part of a larger conspiracy and wanted to create an atmosphere of fear and disturb the harmony in Poonch district by attacking various places including temples, gurudwaras, army camps and hospitals with grenades.” He said both the arrested terrorists have cross-border links and the cases of all the five grenade attacks that took place in the district since November last year have now been solved. Jain said, “The busting of the JKGF module is a huge success for all the security agencies.” He said that the two arrested terrorists are being interrogated.
Police said that during interrogation, the terrorists told that their handlers sitting across the border had provided them four consignments of arms and ammunition and cash worth Rs 1.50 lakh. The terrorists revealed that they were given training in using pistols and also practiced aiming by firing some bullets in the forest. According to the police, Aziz attacked the Shiva temple in Surankot on November 15 last year, Gurdwara Mahant Sahib in Poonch district on March 26 this year, Army sentry post at Kamsar in Poonch district in June and CRPF sentry post on August 14. Was involved in a grenade attack in the nearby school grounds.
Police said that Hussain had carried out a grenade attack near the houses of the district hospital staff on July 18. Police said the two terrorists had also pasted anti-national posters at various places in Surankote, including Hari, Dhundak, Sanai, Idgah-Hari and other nearby areas. He said that these posters were printed at Hussain’s house and were pasted in August last year on the instructions of his handlers to create fear among the people. On September 12, another member of this module, Mohammad Shabbir, a resident of Dariyala, was arrested with a huge cache of explosives, police said. According to the police, Aziz had provided him with explosives.
