Monsoon remains active in Himachal Pradesh. Rain continues in most parts of the state on Sunday as well. The capital Shimla is cloudy since morning. The clouds started raining here in the afternoon. During the last 24 hours, light to moderate monsoon rain has occurred at many places in the state. Due to rain, incidents of landslides have also been reported in many areas. However, the Meteorological Department has given an update of getting relief from rain in the next 5 days.
According to the report of the State Emergency Operation Center, one national highway and 61 roads remained closed due to landslides till Sunday morning. 31 roads are closed in Mandi, 13 in Shimla, 10 in Kangra, three in Kinnaur, two in Kullu and one each in Sirmaur and Una. National Highway number-5 is closed for the last two days due to road collapse in Nigulsari of Kinnaur district. Apart from this, three bridges have also been damaged due to heavy rains and landslides. One bridge each has been damaged in Una, Lahaul-Spiti and Kangra district. Six electricity transformers in Kullu district and five in Chamba district are also damaged. A drinking water scheme in Lahaul-Spiti has also come to a halt.
Where did it rain
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum rainfall of 50 mm was recorded in Una during the last 24 hours. Apart from this, 40 mm rain was recorded in Gohar of Mandi, 30 mm in Baijnath of Kangra, 20 mm in Kufri of Shimla, 17 mm in Sangla, 15 mm each in Jubbarhatti and Mandi, 14 mm each in Nichar and Bijahi, 8 mm in Kalpa and 7 mm in Barthin.
When will you get relief
According to the weather department forecast, there will be relief from heavy rains due to slow monsoon in the next five days. Meteorological Center Shimla has predicted rain in most parts of the state till September 14. However, no alert has been issued during this period.
Monsoon, which has been active for more than two months in Himachal Pradesh, has caused havoc. According to the report of the State Emergency Operations Center, 51 incidents of cloudburst and floods occurred during the monsoon season, while landslides occurred at 42 places. 36 people died in these incidents and 30 are missing. Six people were injured. 83 houses, 17 shops and 23 cattle sheds were completely destroyed in these accidents. 288 people lost their lives and 450 were injured in rain-related accidents during the monsoon. During this period, movable and immovable property has suffered a loss of Rs 1304 crore. The Public Works Department has suffered the maximum loss of Rs 617 crore and the Water Power Department has suffered a loss of Rs 509 crore.
