Bihar Voter List Controversy: As soon as the monsoon session of the assembly started in Bihar, the heat of politics has reached its peak. While the ruling party is telling its development work in the election year, the opposition is now seen in the mood to surround the government on the pretext of voter list. But what happened in the House on Tuesday offered political mercury even more. As soon as the speaker tried to initiate the proceedings, the opposition parties broke the dignity of the House and started protesting. Opposition MLA wrapped in black clothes “take back Sir!” As the poster jumped into the well. The intensity of the protest was so much that some MLAs sat on a dharna at the main entrance of the assembly. At the same time, the ruling party dismissed these allegations outright and called the entire incident a “political stunt”.
Politics on SIR, what is the opposition?
This time at the root of the dispute, “Sir” is Special Identification Revision which is a government process related to special revision of voter list. The opposition alleges that through this exercise, the government wants to remove the names of its opposing voters from the voter list. Parties like RJD and Congress have described it as “conspiracy against democracy” and demanded that the government immediately withdraw the proposal. Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav was not present in the House himself on this hot issue, but his supporting MLAs kept the front. The protests lasted for about 45 minutes due to which chaos spread in the assembly premises. When the members going to the House started having difficulty in entering, the speaker had to open the second gate of the assembly.
Marshal’s support for speaker, smile of Chief Minister
A view was the most discussed amidst the uproar when Assembly Speaker Nandkishore Yadav himself was brought inside with the help of Marshal. During this time the cameras captured another scene which gave rise to a new debate in politics, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar smiled and clapped by clapping the opposition’s displeasure. Was this ‘clap’ of Nitish just a reaction or political sarcasm? In political corridors, it is being seen from different perspectives. Some are considering it to be a clever reaction of the ruling party, while some Nitish’s confidence. By the way, this is not the first time that Nitish has made his presence felt by clapping and realizing his presence in the House. Even before this, even when the opposition created a ruckus about the education department, the Chief Minister also responded to the protest by clapping. Then he said, “If you have a complaint then write us and we will take action.”
2025 battle begins with voter list?
The countdown of the assembly elections in Bihar has started. In such a situation, technical issues like revision of voter list have also become political weapons. The opposition feels that through this process, the government wants to create a favorable voter base for itself, while the government is rejecting every charge by calling it a “regular process”. But the reality is that it is no longer an administrative matter. This debate can directly affect electoral equations. Especially when the RJD Congress and the Left are trying to convey the message that the ruling coalition wants to reshuffle the infrastructure of democracy before the election.
House proceedings postponed till 2 pm
The proceedings of the House were postponed till 2 pm due to uproar. But now the matter will not stop only adjournment. The scenes that were seen in the assembly today are indicated that the Bihar Assembly Elections of 2025 can now be fought on the new axis of “voter versus power” instead of the 2025 Bihar assembly election corruption vs. reconstruction or caste vs. development. The opposition is raising voice from the road to the house and the ruling party is responding to him with a smile. The question is, will the clap this time echoed or the beep of the voting machine?
