Bihar parliament: There is nothing ‘normal’ in Bihar politics these days. Neither the proceedings of the House nor the language of the leaders nor the relationship between the opposition and the ruling party. What happened in the assembly premises on Thursday made the temple of democracy a political arena. The commotion of the ruckus scuffle, the scene of abusing and allegations was not of any election rally but of the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
Gunji abuses in the house
Discussion was going on in the House, “Special Intensive Revision (SIR)”, but the atmosphere became as if a great war broke out. MLAs of the ruling party and opposition clashed so much that Marshall had to intervene. But the matter did not stop only the debate, BJP MLA Sanjay Kumar broke the mic and the matter became hot. Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav alleges that BJP MLAs abused not only him but his parents and sister. Tejashwi said “I was being abused in the House but I kept restraint. The person was abusing the mother and sister who calls himself a ‘public servant’. I have demanded from the speaker that video recording should be released so that the truth is revealed.”
When Tejashwi said ‘BJP goons cannot hear the truth’
Tejashwi also alleges that when he was talking to facts and arguments on SIR, the MLAs of the ruling party were repeatedly interrupting him. He said “We were talking about the issue but the BJP goons do not have the courage to hear the truth.” Tejashwi’s statement not only makes the opposition aggressive but also attacks the ruling party directly. Political language is now seen exiting the purview of decency.
‘If we were there, we would have rescued fever!’ Tej Pratap orgy
Tejashwi’s brother and former Bihar minister Tej Pratap Yadav also did not lag behind. When the media questioned him about the uproar of the assembly, he broke the bomb. He said, “If I were in the House, I would have rescued Emperor Chaudhary’s fever!” Tej Pratap accused Emperor Chaudhary of being a criminal image and said that he is only doing drama. “Wearing black clothes are protesting while there is no hearing in its own government. This is just a drama to run away from true questions.”
SIR made ‘political battlefield’ – no one is ready to retreat
Special Intensive Revision (SIR) scheme which is being run to improve and revise the voter list has now become the most controversial issue of Bihar politics. If the opposition is calling it ‘tampering with voter list’, then the ruling party is calling it part of the democratic process. Since Tuesday, there is a fierce battle in the House regarding SIR. On the first day, the opposition MLAs have shouted slogans by entering the well. And now on Thursday, the matter reached the call to break the mike and abuse.
Is Bihar’s democracy under the grip of ‘abusive-gundardi’?
After this entire uproar, the question arises, is the Bihar Assembly no longer a platform for democratic debate? When the public representatives themselves scramble themselves, break the mike and abuse them and make a personal attack, then whom should the public expect? This is not the first time in Bihar politics that there is an uproar in the House, but this time the matter is very deep. Tejashwi Yadav’s parents accused of abusing Tejashwi Yadav’s statement in violent language and the incident of demolition of the mike by the BJP MLA all indicates that Bihar’s political temperature is in its rise.
Questions raised on the speaker, will the video be released?
Tejashwi has demanded the Speaker of the Assembly to release video recording. He says that if the video is revealed, the country will be able to see the truth. But so far no clear statement has come from the speaker. If the video was released and the allegations are proved correct, then there may be huge political loss for the BJP. On the other hand, if the allegations are proved to be false, then the credibility of RJD may get a big shock.
When will the issues talk?
The talk on the SIR scheme had started but the debate wandered from the issue to abusive hooliganism and personal attacks. Bihar still needs concrete debate on real issues like education health unemployment, but MLAs are busy breaking the mic and getting rid of fever. If politics continues in this direction, then the biggest loss of democracy will be the trust of the people.
