Bihar Politics: In Bihar this year’s assembly elections, the Congress is preparing to enter the arena with the changed strategy. For a long time in Bihar, Congress has been contesting elections in an alliance with Rashtriya Janata Dal led by Lalu Prasad Yadav. The party contested 70 seats in the state in the 2020 assembly elections, but the party was successful in only 19 seats.
The party is eyeing the seats more than the number of seats this time where there is a possibility of victory. For this, the party has also conducted an internal survey. In such a situation, it is believed that this time the Congress is preparing to make a tough deal with RJD. Now it will be seen to see what is the attitude of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav towards Congress demand.
Congress fought in 70 seats last time
The Congress’s hold in Bihar was weakened in the 90s and since then the party has been contesting the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections with RJD. In the last assembly election, the party managed to hold 70 seats under pressure on the RJD leadership. However, after a very close contest in the election results, many political experts also believed that if the RJD leadership had not given so much seats to the Congress, then Bihar’s electoral view could have been something else.
This time, the Congress alliance will definitely contest elections in Bihar, but the party will give preference to such seats instead of more seats, on which the party’s possibility of victory is visible. Party leaders believe that this may succeed in winning more seats for the Congress.
Party changed strategy after internal survey
In Bihar, the Congress is busy preparing for electoral preparations and party leader Rahul Gandhi has visited Bihar twice in recent times. Along with this, the party has recently conducted an internal survey. In this survey conducted some time ago, it has been emphasized that the party should emphasize the seats with the possibility of winning the number of seats. The party believes that there are about five dozen seats in Bihar where the party’s organization is strong and along with this the party has better candidates to contest elections.
A senior leader of the state Congress says that the party will claim only the seats likely to win at the time of discussion of seat sharing in the opposition alliance. For this, some seats will also be swapped along with alliance colleagues. However, it is not considered easy to prepare coalition colleagues for this.
Especially watching seats likely to win
The Congress leader said that in the 2020 assembly elections, the Congress had contested 70 seats, but most of these seats proved to be only numbers. He said that so far no discussion has started about seat sharing in the coalition, but it is certain that the party’s eye will remain on the seats of winning this time. We will try to achieve such seats. It is clear from this attitude of the Congress that this time the party is preparing for the tuff deal with RJD.
Why the strategy changed in Congress
This attitude of the party has also made it clear that if the party gets the favorite seats, then this time it can also compromise on less seats. Party leaders say that out of the 70 seats that the Congress had won to contest the elections last time, 45 seats were a strong stronghold of NDA. The party did not succeed in these seats from the last four elections. Many traditional seats of the Congress were given to the Left and the Left also benefited.
In the 2015 elections, the Congress won 41 seats and won 27. The party got more success by contesting elections on fewer seats. This is the reason that the party has changed its strategy this time. Similarly, the attitude of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav will prove to be decisive in the case. Experts believe that it is not easy to get seats from Lalu by putting pressure. In such a situation, it will be seen to see how far the Congress gets success in its campaign.
