Bihar Voter List Controversy: The Supreme Court today expressed concern over the removal of millions of names during the special revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar on 22 August i.e. Friday. The court expressed great displeasure over the inaction of political parties in this process and raised questions that when the names of voters have been removed from the list on such a large scale, why did the political parties not register objections?

The court’s remarks came to light at a time when the Election Commission said that despite several public criticisms, no major political party has officially filed any objection or complaint. The Commission also said that during the revision process, no party showed activity in any way.
Only 3 parties reached the Supreme Court
A bench headed by Justice Suryakant expressed surprise on the matter that out of the 12 recognized parties of Bihar, only 3 have appeared in the court on this issue. The court raised the question that when BLA (booth level agent) has been appointed, what did political parties use them? Also raised questions at the distance between the public and the leaders.
Court takes a tough stand on the responsibility of political parties

Election Commission clarity
Giving information to the court, senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi on behalf of the Election Commission said that no big party has come with objections in the court. He also made it clear that people whose names have been removed can also claim through online medium and they do not need to come to Bihar for this.

On behalf of RJD, senior advocate Kapil Sibal said that he is representing the party MP Manoj Jha and not the full party. At the same time, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that 8 opposition parties are working in his petition. On this, the court raised questions and asked that if they are representing so many parties, how many objections they have filed and how many BLA have been deployed?

According to the Election Commission, there are about 1.6 lakh BLA in the state. If every BLA connects with 10 voters daily, then this figure can reach 16 lakhs. The Commission also said that it is a great responsibility of a individual voter to give information about changing the address or death of someone, but the non -cooperation of political parties is becoming severely interrupted.
