Bihar Voter List Scam: The roots of democracy have started moving in Bihar. Voter revision campaign, which was to be the basis of the country’s largest democratic festival, assembly elections 2025, has now become a big scam and a story of chaos. On the one hand, the Election Commission is claiming that the work is going on smoothly, while the ground reality is presenting something else.
DM is giving knock itself, yet ‘silence’ is on the ground
In Patna, the District Magistrate himself is seen distributing the calculation forms from house to house. This visual can be a symbol of administrative vigilance, but are the situation in the entire state? The answer is no. No calculation forms have reached till date, in Patna’s Jagjivan Ram Colony, which is just two hundred meters from the Chief Minister’s Housing and Commission office. And the same situation is with Kaushal Nagar, which is located near the houses of Minister Ashok Chaudhary and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav.
Only ‘Khanapurti’ in Motihari, just 5 thousand employees on 37 lakh voters
The condition of Motihari district is even more worrying. Only 5,000 employees have been deployed here to review 37 lakh voters. That is, a blo has to verify 740 voters. Not only this, one supervisor on every 10 blo at the block level and only BDO, SDO and DM are under monitoring. But the question is, is monitoring or everything is going on God trust?
Supreme court directions are flying
The Supreme Court had clearly stated that the documentary process should be made transparent and flexible in voter revision. But till now the Election Commission has not made any clear changes. Voters are still facing a long list of 11 documents, including the 2003 voter list. And the most controversial condition is that Nepal’s daughters will get citizenship only after 7 years of marriage in India and only then they will be able to vote. In such a situation, many women of Raxaul, who have Aadhaar cards, ration cards and voter cards, are now prepared to consider them to be ‘intruders’, considering them as ‘intruders’. These are the same women who have elected the first head, councilor, MLA and MP.
‘Formality’ of documents in Kishanganj, silence on entry of foreign nationals
Muslim -dominated Kishanganj district is filling the form by sitting in blo wards, but who is coming with the documents, whose citizenship is valid, there is no investigation. The ground report of TV9 showed that BLO is not even allowed to talk to the media. He has been given strict instructions of “statement do not two”. In such a situation, it is meaningless to expect transparency.
Recovery in the name of tea-water, blo opened ‘fees collection’ shop
A shocking video has gone viral in Manpur block of Gaya district, in which Blo Gauri Shankar is openly charging money in the name of filling the online form from voters. After the video surfaced, a case has been registered against the concerned BLO, but the question is, how many more blo are those who are cutting the pockets of the poor in the name of tea and water and the system is sitting blind?
Relief or new move from Aadhaar card?
Now the Aadhaar card is being recognized as a document. This was not mandatory before the Supreme Court’s directive, but now Blo is also accepting it. Many people in Seemanchal area are competing to get Aadhaar cards, some to take advantage of government schemes, some to register their presence in India. Even many locals are saying about Bangladeshi intruders, “Sir, who is already here, he also votes and takes ration.” So what Aadhaar has become a ‘shield’ of fake citizenship?
Name connecting means bribe, burden of documents and government silence
Voter list in Bihar has now become a game of race and money, not of documents. The voter is living in fear, his name does not disappear from the list. Blo never comes, and when he comes, ask for money. Both the claims of the Election Commission and the advice of the Supreme Court are proving to be meaningless. The distribution of calculation forms is still incomplete. Voters are neither getting information nor help. And in the meantime, politics seems to be accepting everything with its silence. So the question is, will the 2025 election in Bihar become a fair process or will this ‘reform’ of the voter list prove to be the biggest joke of democracy? Is the real voters of India being excluded by curtaining the entry of foreign nationals?
