The Bharatiya Janata Party has performed brilliantly in its membership campaign in Madhya Pradesh. The party’s state president said that the figure has crossed one crore in the first phase. The party’s target is to make 1.5 crore members. It is expected that the party will touch this figure after the second phase.
The BJP has enrolled over one crore members in Madhya Pradesh between September 2 and 25 under the first phase of its membership drive, a party leader said on Thursday. The membership figure in the first phase was 1,00,81,432, he said. State BJP chief V D Sharma told PTI that the second phase of the membership drive will begin on October 1 and end on October 15. “We have achieved the feat of enrolling 1,00,81,432 members due to the hard work of our dedicated workers,” he said.
Madhya Pradesh BJP media chief Ashish Aggarwal told PTI that Madhya Pradesh has become the second state after Uttar Pradesh to cross the one crore mark. So far, 1.25 crore members have been registered in Uttar Pradesh.
He said the BJP is eyeing to make 1.50 crore members in Madhya Pradesh. He said while Madhya Pradesh has around 64,000 polling booths, neighbouring Uttar Pradesh has around 1.64 lakh such facilities. Another leader said that under such a drive in the BJP, the membership of old members is renewed every six years.
Aggarwal said in the last campaign, the party had achieved the figure of 96 lakh and failed to touch the one crore mark. According to the 2011 census, Madhya Pradesh had 7.26 crore citizens and the number is likely to increase to 8.50 crore in the next such exercise. The census could not be conducted in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the general election held earlier this year, the BJP won all 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh.
