Ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, the ruling Mahayuti alliance (Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party) is all set to finalize the seat sharing. BJP will contest the maximum number of seats, followed by Shiv Sena and NCP. According to sources, BJP can contest elections on 150 to 155 seats, Shiv Sena on 90-95 seats and NCP on 40-45 seats. Let us also tell you that several rounds of meetings have been held among the alliance leaders to finalize the seat distribution.
CNN News-18 quoted sources as saying that the distribution of seats among the constituent parties of the alliance will be announced before the announcement of election dates. Sources said, “Most of the seat distribution has been completed. Two more rounds of meetings are going to be held to discuss about 25 seats.”
Let us tell you that in the 2019 assembly elections held in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena was united under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray. Ajit Pawar was also with his uncle Sharad Pawar. Many major political upheavals were seen in Maharashtra in these five years. Despite securing majority in 2019, the BJP and Shiv Sena coalition government was not formed. President’s rule was imposed in the state.
In November, Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as CM along with Ajit Pawar. Ajit Pawar left the party to form the government with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and was made the Deputy Chief Minister. However, after three days both of them resigned and Ajit Pawar went back to his uncle Sharad Pawar.
After this, Uddhav Thackeray formed an alliance with NCP and Congress to form the government after the floor test on 28 November. Thackeray suffered another blow in June 2022 when his party’s Eknath Shinde joined the NDA with a group of MLAs and formed the government with the BJP in the state. Shinde was made the CM and Fadnavis became his deputy. A few months later, Ajit Pawar once again broke away from his uncle and joined the Mahayuti alliance with a group of leaders and was again made the Deputy CM.
