Here party candidate Swaroop Thakor has defeated Congress candidate Gulab Singh Rajput in a close contest. It has given a big blow to BJP. Let us tell you that BJP has a strong majority in Gujarat Assembly, but it was defeated in Vav Assembly seat in the last elections. How many votes was the difference?
Congress candidate Gulab Singh Rajput was defeated by BJP’s Swaroop Thakor by a margin of 2436 votes. While Rajput got 89693 votes, 92129 people voted in Thakor’s name. At third place was independent candidate Mavjibhai Patel who got a total of 27183 votes. Let us tell you that Vav assembly seat had become vacant due to the victory of Geniben Thakor in the Lok Sabha elections. Geniben had won the assembly elections in 2022 by defeating BJP’s Swaroop Thakor. In such a situation, Swaroop Thakor took revenge of the previous defeat from Congress by winning this seat. In this by-election held on Vav seat, NOTA also got 3358 votes and stood at fourth position.
BJP’s tsunami came in 2022
Let us tell you that in the Gujarat Assembly elections held in 2022, BJP had won a landslide victory and won 156 out of 182 seats. In those elections, Congress was reduced to only 17 seats while Aam Aadmi Party also managed to win 5 seats. However, by 2024, many Congress MLAs changed sides and joined BJP. In this way the strength of Congress further reduced in the Assembly. Thakor’s thrilling victory in the by-election on Vav assembly seat has further increased the strength of BJP.
