Bulldozer action continued for 12 hours near Somnath temple in Gir Somnath district of Gujarat on Saturday. Here, bulldozers have been used on 9 religious structures of the minority community simultaneously. It is being told that all these religious structures were built on government land in Prabhas Patan.
The anti-encroachment campaign, which started at 5 am on Saturday, continued till the evening and land worth Rs 320 crore was vacated. During this time a huge crowd gathered which tried to stop the action. The police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. During this period the police detained 135 people.
According to the Times of India report, 1400 police personnel took non-stop action and vacated 102 acres of land. During this period, the main market of Prabhas Patan also remained closed. Apart from nine religious structures, 45 Musafir Khanas (travellers’ residences) were also demolished.
It is being told that notice was given before the action. Even after this, the administration had given more time to vacate the structures. Police had also blocked 5 km of road between Bhidiya GIDC Circle and Shankha Circle to maintain law and order. The administration had deployed 35 earthmovers, 52 tractors and 10 trucks for the operation. Three Superintendents of Police, four Deputy Superintendents of Police, 12 Inspectors, 24 Sub Inspectors, Additional District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Executive Magistrate were present on this occasion.
