Police in Surat, Gujarat have seized fake notes worth Rs 2.57 crore. Four people have been arrested in this connection. Police officials gave this information on Sunday. The accused had prepared these fake notes to defraud banks, markets and common people.

According to the police, the incident took place on Saturday evening, when four accused were walking on foot carrying three bags in Saroli area. He was caught during investigation. Saroli police station official said, “The accused had hidden 43 bundles of fake Rs 500 notes. Each bundle contained 1,000 notes. The top and bottom notes were genuine, so that people would not be cheated.” Apart from this, the police recovered 21 more bundles, which contained 1,000 fake notes of Rs 200.
Case registered under these sections
These fake notes neither had any serial number nor the stamp of the Reserve Bank of India on them. These notes had ‘Indian Children’s Account’ written on them, which was a clear indication of their being fake. The accused have been identified as Dattatreya Rokde, Rahul Vishwakarma and Rahul Kale, residents of Ahilyanagar in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, while one of the accused is Gulshan Gugale, a resident of Surat. All of them have been booked under sections 318 (2) (cheating), 61 (criminal conspiracy) and 62 (punishment for attempt to commit a serious crime) of the Indian Penal Code.
Police say that this could be a big gang, which was running a network of fake notes across the country. Interrogation of the accused is going on and the police hope that more important information can be obtained from them in this case.
