Tri -contest on Visavadar seat
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled Gujarat is voting for the by -election on June 19 in the Visavadar assembly seat in Gujarat. In such a situation, there is a possibility of a triangular contest on the Visavadar seat. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already announced its candidate for this seat, but AAP’s ally in the ‘India’ alliance has said that it will contest the by -election alone.
Voting on June 19 and results on 23 June
The Congress and BJP have expressed confidence to win after the Election Commission has announced the date of by -elections for Visavadar and Kara assembly constituencies respectively in Junagadh and Mehsana districts. The Election Commission said that the by -elections will be held on June 19 and the votes will be counted on June 23. The last date for filing nomination papers is June 2, while nomination papers will be examined on 3 June. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is 5 June.
Gopal Italia candidate from AAP
The Aam Aadmi Party has declared Gopal Italia a candidate from Visavadar seat. Talking to reporters in Mehsana, Gujarat Health Minister and BJP government spokesperson Rishikesh Patel said that he is confident that the people of Gujarat will deny the Congress or any other party. He said, “We will win both the seats with a gain of thousands of votes.”
Congress panel will select the name of candidate
State Congress President and Rajya Sabha member Shaktisinh Gohil said that his party had started preparations for the by -elections long ago. The Congress has announced a panel of supervisors to select the candidates for both the seats.
These two seats were vacant
Visavadar seat in Junagadh district is vacant since December 2023, when the then MLA Bhupendra Bhayani resigned and joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the link of Mehsana (reserved for Scheduled Caste) is vacant since February 4 after the death of BJP MLA Karsan Solanki. In the 182 -member assembly of Gujarat, BJP has 161, 12 of Congress, one from Samajwadi Party, four of AAP and two independents. (With language input)
