A case has been registered against the son of a ruling Bharatiya Janata Party MLA for attacking a tribal man during the Dussehra festival in Chhattisgarh’s Bemetara district. Police officials said that the incident took place on October 13 during Dussehra festival in Chechanmetta village of Saja police station area, following which a case was registered against Krishna Sahu on Tuesday. Krishna Sahu is the son of MLA Ishwar Sahu. Ishwar Sahu is the MLA from Saja seat.
Allegations of assault and abuse
The applicant, Manish Mandavi (18), in his complaint on Monday alleged that Krishna Sahu and his eight-nine friends abused and assaulted him when he was trying to resolve a dispute, officials said. According to the information, there was a dispute between Manish Mandavi’s friend Rahul Dhruv and the MLA’s son. Meanwhile Manish was trying to calm both of them.
Threat of dire consequences
Police officials said that Manish Mandavi has said in the complaint that the accused have also threatened him of dire consequences. He said that a case has been registered against the accused under sections of the Indian Justice Code. No arrest has been made in this regard yet and further investigation is ongoing.
Police also accused
Meanwhile, members of the tribal community of the area accused the administration of suppressing the case and pressurizing the victim to compromise. He also alleged that the police delayed registering the case. On April 8 last year, another son of Ishwar Sahu, Bhuneshwar Sahu (22), was killed in communal violence in Biranpur village under Saja assembly constituency.
When assembly elections were held in the state, BJP had accused the then Congress government of doing appeasement politics regarding this incident and had fielded Bhuneshwar Sahu’s father Ishwar Sahu from Saja seat. Sahu had defeated the then minister and influential Congress leader Ravindra Choubey in this election.
