Stone pelting on Ganesh pandal in Surat.
Anti-social elements pelted stones at Ganesh Pandal in Surat, Gujarat. After the stone pelting, a clash broke out between two groups. Stones were pelted at the police and the public and many vehicles were also set on fire. Police say that more than 50 people have been detained in this case. The situation became such that the police had to resort to lathicharge and tear gas.
Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi arrived
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi himself reached the pandal in Surat where the Ganesha idol was pelted with stones and vandalized. He also performed the aarti of Ganesha by worshipping in the same pandal. Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot and Surat Mayor Dakshesh Mawani were also present with him.

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi has said that 6 people pelted stones on Ganesh Pandal in Syedpura area of Surat today. All these 6 people have been arrested and the police have also arrested 27 other people who instigated these people. Strict action will be taken against those who disturb the peace in the state.
Lathicharge and use of tear gas
Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot has said that some children pelted stones at the Ganesh pandal, after which a clash broke out between two groups. The police immediately removed those children from there. Police was immediately deployed in the area and lathicharge was done. Police has said that tear gas was used in all areas where it was needed. All the accused who disturbed the peace are being arrested, about 1000 policemen are deployed all around and the public is also present here. (Report: Shailesh)
