The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is continuously working towards taking the state and its economic development towards success at the national and international level. The state government has launched several initiatives aimed at establishing Punjab as a special destination on the global tourism map. The first Punjab Tourism Summit and Travel Mart held last year is an example of the beginning of this ambitious project. CM Mann believes that with better infrastructure, the region will become a tourist hotspot attracting tourists from all over the country. The government is also formulating a tourism policy for this.
According to the state government, the initiative aims to achieve two primary goals: boost the state’s economy through tourism and create employment opportunities for the youth. By promoting the tourism industry, the initiative aims to boost economic growth and also create new employment opportunities for the youth, allowing them to become financially independent.
Special attention is also given to global tourism
The tourism sector in Punjab is being boosted in several ways to attract Indian expatriates and international tourists. The retreat ceremony held at Attari, Hussainiwala and Fazilka on the India-Pakistan border attracts people from across the country and abroad on a daily basis. Last year, over 2 crore tourists visited the heritage-rich state. A tourism policy will be formulated, taking into account the special features of each district of the state, along with a proper strategy to promote border tourism. Eco-tourism and cultural policy will be updated simultaneously.
The CM has recently released a plan to introduce jet skiing, motor paragliding and hot air balloon facilities at Chamrod Port to boost the tourism industry. After conducting a trial run for this activity, CM Mann expressed his excitement, saying that water-based options like speed boating are already quite popular at this beautiful destination.
Kandi area will become the next center of attraction for tourists
The Punjab government is actively working to improve the areas around Ranjit Sagar Dam, Shahpur Kandi Dam and Kandi areas of Hoshiarpur district. These places have the potential to become major tourist attractions, attracting tourists from all over the world. CM Mann said that concrete work will be done to develop these areas as tourist attractions. A framework is being prepared for this. The area is rich in natural resources, which have the potential to attract tourists from all over the world. Promoting economic activity in the region is essential to improve the lives of the residents here. The Punjab government has approved a policy for water adventure tourism, aimed at promoting water sports that can be introduced in the region.
