There is a lot of discussion in Congress on the names of candidates for the assembly elections to be held on October 5 in Haryana. So far, a total of 66 names have been agreed upon. 34 names were discussed earlier and now it is reported that 32 new names have been approved. The Congress Election Committee had a meeting on Monday, in which many leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, KC Venugopal and Ajay Maken were present. During this, Haryana in-charge Deepak Babaria was also present and 34 names were approved. After this, a meeting was held again on Tuesday, in which 32 more names were decided.
According to the information received so far, there seems to be a consensus on giving tickets to Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia as well. But it has not been decided yet from which seats both of them should be fielded in the elections. There are a total of 90 assembly seats in Haryana, out of which candidates for two-thirds have been finalized. At present, Congress has not announced the name of any candidate. It is being said that the party can announce at least 50 names at once. The proposal of alliance with Aam Aadmi Party in Haryana is also being discussed.
Initially, Congress was in the mood to contest alone, but Rahul Gandhi had suggested bringing Aam Aadmi Party along in the election committee meeting. He had asked the leaders of Haryana Congress to consider whether Aam Aadmi Party can also be brought along. Since then, channels of dialogue have opened between the two parties. It is reported that a decision on coming together can be taken this week. Aam Aadmi Party has demanded 10 seats in case of alliance, while Congress is agreeable to 6 to 7. Now we will have to see on how many seats the two are able to reach an agreement.
