Surat: Converting Rs 5 crore of black money into white proved costly for a textile businessman of the city. Actually, before converting the black money into white money by transferring Rs 5 crore through RTGS, some miscreants fled with a bag full of cash. However, later the police arrested five accused from different places by setting up a blockade. Rs 4 crore 54 lakh of the looted money has also been recovered from them. At the same time, other accused in the case are still absconding, who are being searched.
The miscreants in the car snatched the bag
Surat Crime Branch DCP Bhavesh Rojia said that the elderly businessman Harish Vankawala had left with two middlemen Shrikant Joshi and Shailendra at 2:30 pm on Friday to convert his black money into white. He had decided to convert his huge amount into white money through RTGS. He had just reached about 100 meters from his bungalow when a white Innova car carrying 4 people arrived there. The people in the car snatched the bag from the elderly businessman. The accused also forcibly made Shrikant and Shailendra sit in their car and fled from there.
After getting the information, police blocked the area
After about half an hour, the elderly businessman called the police control room. On hearing about the robbery of Rs. 5 crore, the top officers of Surat police got into action. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the police immediately started investigating. After this, CCTV footage of the city was scanned. Investigation revealed that a white Innova car was going towards Mumbai. Meanwhile, a call came from a middleman Shrikant Joshi that the miscreants dropped him from the car near Vesma village of Navsari.
The miscreants were running away by changing the number plate
DCP of Surat Crime Branch said that we also alerted the State Control. Action started under the supervision of Surat Police Commissioner. Efforts to catch the accused were started by putting blockades in every district. A team of 30 people was formed and CCTVs were scanned. Initially, the number of the Innova car was found to be GJ 05 183, the description of the accused sitting in it was circulated everywhere. However, where the accused had dropped Shrikant Joshi, they changed the Gujarat number plate to Maharashtra number plate. SP and IG of entire South Gujarat were alerted.
He escaped by dodging the police as well
After this, Surat police also formed different teams and put them behind the accused. Initial information revealed that this Innova car was being captured in CCTV cameras of different areas of Surat. Due to the change in number plate, the police was also facing difficulty in catching the car. Shrikant Joshi told the police about the appearance of the accused. Meanwhile, the Innova car was seen near the toll plaza of Valsad. The police tried to stop the car but the accused escaped from the Valsad toll post by dodging the police. However, the police caught them later.
Three accused arrested from another place
The police caught the masterminds of the entire conspiracy Shailendra Singh and Qayum Pasa Sheikh from the car. When the police started searching the car, Rs 4 crore 54 lakh was recovered from it. In the preliminary interrogation, the accused told that three more people are involved in this conspiracy. The police also started preparations to catch them. Meanwhile, the police came to know that a car has collided with a tanker near Bhilad checkpost and three people are said to be injured in it. These people were also other accused in this case, whom the police also caught. The injured accused were admitted to the hospital. At the same time, other accused are also said to be absconding, who are being searched.
A total of 9 accused were involved in the robbery
Police said that a total of 9 people came to carry out this robbery. 5 people came in Innova and 4 people came in the other car. 5 accused have been arrested so far, while 4 are absconding. Apart from this, recovery of Rs 46 lakh is still pending. At present, the police is also questioning the complainant Harish Vankawala about how he got such a huge amount. According to information received from sources, this amount was received from a land deal. Police is also investigating that. Surat Police has also informed the IT department about the case.
