During the hearing on the bail plea of Sanjay Roy, accused of raping and murdering a woman doctor in RG Kar Hospital, the CBI lawyer did not reach the court. On being late, the judge got upset and asked whether the accused should be granted bail. The CBI lawyer reached the court 50 minutes late. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pamela Gupta came to know from an official at 4:10 pm that the government lawyer was late. The judge said, if the lawyer is not present then they should grant bail to Roy.
According to the Times of India report, when lawyer Deepak Poriya did not arrive in court even after waiting for some time, the judge asked a CBI officer to call him. He said, it is 4:20 and this is very unfortunate. The assistant investigating officer in the case went out of the court and returned after about 15 minutes. He said, the lawyer is on the way. Poriya came to the courtroom at around 5 o’clock. After this, defense lawyer Kavita Sarkar asked why the lawyer who came for the hearing on August 23 did not appear on behalf of the CBI.
Poriya said that he is a full-time CBI lawyer. He opposed Roy’s bail plea in the court without giving any reason. After this, the magistrate sent Sanjay Roy to judicial custody till September 20. Roy’s lawyer said that there is no criminal case pending against him. He also said that the CBI has not been able to present any solid evidence in the court so far, that is why it is hesitant to argue in the court. In such a situation, Sanjay Roy should be granted bail.
Let us tell you that Sanjay Roy is the only accused in the murder case of a female doctor in RG Kar Hospital on 9 August. After the investigation was handed over to the CBI, Sanjay Roy’s judicial custody has been extended again. Earlier on 23 August, the CBI had sought Sanjay Roy’s custody. However, the CBI did not mention gang rape in the court. At the same time, the victim’s parents say that more than one person was involved in this crime.
