Surat: Drugs worth about Rs 1.5 crore have been seized at two different places in Surat, Gujarat on Saturday. Police said that the drug ‘Mephedrone’ was seized from two places in Surat city. Besides, five people have also been arrested. The accused are being interrogated. Information is being obtained about their gang.
Police got success during patrolling
Police said that during patrolling, Surat City Crime Branch personnel recovered 974 grams of Mephedrone from two persons named Tamir Shaikh (20) and Sahid Diwan (19), who were riding a bike on Hazira-Sayan road. Its estimated price is one crore rupees. Police said both the accused tried to escape and hid in a field, but were caught after a search operation of about six hours.
Drugs were purchased from Mumbai
In a related case, 554 grams of Mephedrone worth Rs 55 lakh was seized and three more people were arrested. He had purchased this drug from Mumbai. The officer has identified the three as Irfakhan Pathan, Mohammad Rafiq and Asfaq Qureshi. Police said a case has been registered against the five and investigation is underway to unearth the smuggling network.
Drugs worth crores recovered from Porbandar
Earlier in a joint operation by the agencies on Friday, about 700 kg of narcotics were seized in Indian waters off the Gujarat coast around Porbandar and eight foreign nationals claiming to be Iranians were arrested. This operation was jointly carried out by NCB, Navy and Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Gujarat Police. According to NCB officials, the value of the seized methamphetamine, which is a synthetic recreational drug, could be between Rs 2,500-3,500 crore in the international market.
Let us inform that so far this year, about 3,400 kg of various drugs and psychotropic substances have been seized, due to which 11 Iranian and 14 Pakistani citizens have been arrested in three cases so far.
