Ahmedabad: A 3.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Kutch district of Gujarat on Wednesday evening. This information was given by the Earthquaker Research Institute (ISR). A district disaster officer said that there is no notice of any casualty or loss of property due to this. Gandhinagar-based ISR said that the 3.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 6.55 pm and its center was 12 km north-northeast of Bhachau in the district.
No damage from earthquake
District officials said that no loss of life and property was reported. Earlier, there was an earthquake in Kutch on 22 April 2025. The NCS said that the center of the earthquake, which occurred at 11.26 pm, was located 160 km north-west from Rajkot. He told that the depth of the earthquake was 20 kilometers. At the same time, earthquakes were recorded several times in December last year.
On 23 December 2024, an earthquake occurred at 10.44 am and its center was 76 km north-east from Lakhpat. According to ISR, the intensity of the earthquake in the district on December 7 was recorded at 3.2. On November 18, a four -magnitude earthquake was recorded in Kutch. According to ISR data, earlier on 15 November, there was a 4.2 magnitude earthquake in Patan, North Gujarat. Gujarat is a high earthquake risky area.
The devastating earthquake occurred in 2001
Explain that Kutch district is located in a very high -risk seismic area and there are often earthquakes of low intensity. The 2001 earthquake in the district was the third largest and second most devastating earthquake in India in the last two centuries. Many cities and villages of the district were almost completely destroyed in which about 13,800 people were killed and 1.67 lakh people were injured.
