Senior doctors of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College have made serious allegations of tampering with evidence in the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor last month. Senior doctors made these allegations while addressing a press conference on Monday. Along with this, the doctors reiterated their demand for live telecast of the meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. A doctor said, “We condemn all such heinous crimes. This crime is the result of collusion between the West Bengal government and the health department officials.”
The doctors have levelled fresh allegations of tampering with evidence against Dr Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Tala police station in-charge Abhijit Mandal has also been arrested in the case. The doctors alleged that there was “tampering with evidence” in the case.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal government has called the protesting junior doctors for talks on Monday for the “fifth and final time” to resolve the ongoing deadlock in the RG Kar Hospital case. The talks could not be held two days ago after disagreement over the live telecast of the meeting. In an email sent to the protesting junior doctors, Chief Secretary Manoj Pant asked them to reach Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence at Kalighat for talks at 5 pm on Monday.

The doctors have given up their demand for live streaming of their talks with the CM but have instead demanded that the meeting be videographed. Reiterating their demand for videography of the meeting, the doctors said, “These two new developments have increased the importance of transparency of the meeting even more than before. Therefore, we would like to insist that the meeting be videographed by separate videographers from both sides.”
Let us tell you that earlier, the meeting between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and junior doctors failed over the demand for live-streaming and videography. The state government has said that this cannot be allowed as the matter is pending in the court. In their new email, the doctors have given options to the state government. They have said that if videography by separate videographers of both the sides is not possible, then the state government should agree to give the video of the proceedings to the junior doctors immediately after the meeting. The state government had earlier said that they would provide the video only after the permission of the Supreme Court. (With Bhasha inputs)
