Running a fake branch in the name of State Bank of India (SBI) in Sakti district of Chhattisgarh has been busted. Police said on Sunday that the fake branch was running in Chhapora village of Malkharauda police station area since September 18. Police have registered a case against three people in this matter. Additional Superintendent of Police Rama Patel said that the fake branch was running in a rented shop with posters and banners of SBI. The gang was busted after local people became suspicious of it.

When the local people felt that something was wrong, they lodged a complaint. Additional Superintendent of Police Rama Patel said that after receiving the complaint, a team from the regional office of SBI in Korba reached the spot and inspected. The team confirmed that this branch is fake. Police raided on Friday and seized computers and other material. Five employees were found working in the branch. These employees claimed that they were recruited through interviews. At present the police is interrogating him.

Police have registered a case against three operators under the Indian Civil Code (BNS). It is said that the alleged mastermind is also included in these. He called himself the branch manager. Police investigation teams are probing how many people were duped and how much money was deposited under the scheme. In the year 2020, another similar case was reported in Tamil Nadu also. Tamil Nadu Police had then arrested three for running a fake SBI branch at Panruti in Cuddalore district.
