Attack to enter wearing shoes.
Vadodara: A mob attacked four foreign students from a private university on charges of wearing shoes in a dargah in the district. Police said the incident happened because they could not understand the Gujarati language. A student suffered a serious head injury in the mob attack. Apart from this, he is also hurt in his arms and legs. He said that five people have been arrested in this case and two minors have been detained.
Students could not understand Gujarati
According to the FIR lodged at Waghodia police station on Sunday night, four students from Thailand, Sudan, Mozambique and Britain study at Parul University. On the evening of March 14 in Limda village near his hostel, he was chased by about 10 people and attacked the students. The FIR said that four students were attacked because they could not understand the Gujarati language. It said that when he went to a dargah, a person was asking him to not wear shoes at the tomb in this language.
Attack with poles, bat and stones
The FIR stated that three students managed to escape during the attack, while Thailand student Supach Kangwanratna (20) was beaten with wooden sticks, cricket bat and stones, causing serious injuries to his head. Kangavanratna is a second year student of ‘Bachelor of Computer Application’ (BCA). The official said that the student has been admitted to the emergency ward of Parul Sevashram Hospital. An official of the Waghodia police station said that five people have been arrested in connection with the case, who have been identified as Mukhtiar Sheikh, Rajesh Vasava, Ravi Vasava, Swaraj Vasava and Praveen Vasava and two minors have been arrested.
About 10 people attacked
A complaint given by a university official said that four international students of Parul University were going towards a pond in Limda village near their hostels after withdrawing money from ATMs. Then about 10 people of the village attacked him with wooden sticks, cricket bat and stones. The FIR lodged on the basis of the complaint said, “He reached a dargah while going to Talab where a person present said in his Gujarati language that he should not go there wearing shoes there.” Students could not understand this language, so they did not understand what he said. After this, the person shouted at them and started pushing them. After this, about ten people from the village reached there and they started abusing the students. They started chasing students who were trying to escape from the scene.
Thailand student seriously injured
The FIR said that when the four students were going towards the university, the mob caught the student of Thailand. After receiving information about the incident, the security team of the hospital reached the spot and he admitted the student to the hospital. An official of the Waghodia police station said that a case has been registered against the mob under various provisions of the Indian Code. (Input-PTI)
