Ajay Jadeja
Former cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been chosen as the next heir to the Jamnagar royal family. Jam Saheb Shatrushalya Singh Maharaj announced this historic decision on Saturday morning. Ajay Jadeja has already achieved fame as an Indian cricketer. Recently he was associated with the Afghanistan cricket team as a mentor during the T20 World Cup. Under his guidance, the Afghanistan team had performed brilliantly. Jadeja did not even take any fees from the Afghanistan Cricket Board for his services. He was greatly appreciated for this generosity.
Shatrushalysinghji said, “Dussehra is the day when Pandavas experienced victory after successfully completing 14 years of exile. Today I too am feeling victorious, because Ajay Jadeja has accepted to be my successor and the next Jam Saheb of Nawanagar. Which I really consider a big boon for the people of Jamnagar.” He also thanked Ajay Jadeja for accepting this responsibility.
Jadeja family’s old connection with cricket
The royal family of Jamnagar has a rich heritage in cricket. The prestigious Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy are named after Jadeja’s relatives KS Ranjitsinhji and KS Duleepsinhji respectively. Ajay Jadeja, who belongs to the same family, represented India from 1992 to 2000. During this period he played 15 test matches and 196 ODI matches. The most memorable moment of his cricket career came in the 1996 Cricket World Cup quarter-finals, when he led the Indian team to victory against arch-rivals Pakistan. Jadeja scored 45 runs in just 25 balls, 40 of which came in the last two overs of Waqar Younis. Apart from batting, Jadeja’s fielding was also praised a lot.
