Former DGP of Rajasthan and former MP Gyan Prakash Pilania has passed away. Pilania, a former Rajya Sabha member, died today in a private hospital in Jaipur. His last rites will be performed tomorrow. Pilania will always be remembered for his work of social reform. His son Naveen Pilania has also been a Rajpa MLA from Amer.
Dr. Gyan Prakash Pilania was a Rajya Sabha MP from 2003 to 2014. He was undergoing treatment in ICU for the last 20 days. Dr. Pilania became IPS in the year 1955 and has held the highest post of DGP of Rajasthan Police. Apart from this, he was also a member of RPSC. His last rites will be performed on Monday. The last procession will leave from his residence in Bani Park at 11 am.
According to the information, on September 18, when former MP Pilania’s health deteriorated, his family brought him to a private hospital located on Sikar Road for treatment. He remained admitted in the ICU for a few days but after some improvement in his health, he was shifted to a private room but he died in the hospital on Sunday. Pilania was born on 18 February 1932 in Sriganganagar. He joined the Indian Police Service on 7 August 1955 and remained in service till 21 December 1989. In the year 2004, he was elected Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan as a representative of Bharatiya Janata Party and in the year 2008, he was elected Rajya Sabha member for the second time.
