Former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee has been arrested by the CBI in connection with alleged irregularities in teacher recruitment in primary schools in West Bengal. This action came hours after the Supreme Court sought a response from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Chatterjee’s bail plea in the case. Earlier, ED had arrested him in 2022.
Official sources said the CBI, along with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), is also investigating the alleged teacher recruitment irregularities. The arrested Mr. Chatterjee has been admitted to the hospital on Monday night.
The ED had arrested Chatterjee along with her close aide Arpita Mukherjee on July 27 in the alleged teacher recruitment scam on July 22, 2022, and seized around Rs 50 crore from Arpita’s two residences in Tollygunge and Belgharia.
It is noteworthy that the former Education Minister was arrested in the year 2022 on charges of irregularities in SSC teacher recruitment.
