There was a wave of mourning in the politics of Dholpur district of Rajasthan on Wednesday due to the demise of former minister Banwari Lal Sharma. Sharma was unwell for a long time. Banwari Lal Sharma died at the age of 84. In his long political career, Banwari Lal Sharma had an image as an impeccable politician. Sharma had competed against many veterans in the assembly elections. Banwari Lal Sharma was elected MLA from Dholpur for the first time in the year 1967. From 1967 to 2008, Banwari Lal Sharma reached Rajasthan Legislative Assembly as MLA five times.
Banwari Lal Sharma had inherited politics. His father Jagannath Prasad Sharma was considered the Chanakya of the politics of the district. Father Jagannath Prasad Sharma had very close relations with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi have also visited his residence twice.
Banwari Lal Sharma had a competition with veteran leaders in the field of politics. Banwari Lal Sharma had established a big name in politics by defeating Vasundhara Raje in the 1980 elections. After this, Bhairo Singh Shekhawat was also given a tough fight in the 1990 assembly elections. Banwari Lal Sharma was also considered a strong leader of Rajasthan Brahmin community. Former minister Banwari Lal Sharma had an MLA image in the field of politics. Even his opponents used to respect and honor him. Despite elections, their relations with former Chief Ministers Vasundhara Raje and Bhairo Singh Shekhawat remained family friendly.
Banwari Lal Sharma, who was a minister in the Congress government, had earlier served on important posts in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly like Parliamentary Consultative Member, Government Assurance Committee Member, Privileges Committee Member, Government Undertaking Committee Member, Subordinate Legislation Committee Member. Apart from these, Banwari Lal Sharma had also served in the Ministry of Rajasthan Government as Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Public Health and Engineering Department and Information and Public Relations Department. Apart from the Rajasthan Assembly, Banwari Lal Sharma had also been the Congress District President as well as the State President of Rajasthan Kabaddi Association. There is a wave of mourning in the entire district after the demise of a prominent leader of Dholpur district. Banwari Lal will be cremated on Thursday morning at Muktidham in Chambal.
