Former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, has been arrested. According to the report, this arrest has been made in a corruption case. Along with Sandip Ghosh, two vendors Biplav Singh and Suman Hazara and his additional security guard Afsar Ali have also been arrested. Ghosh was being questioned by the CBI for several days continuously. He was on the agency’s radar in the case of financial irregularities in the hospital. An FIR had already been registered against him and other institutions. The CBI started this investigation after complaints from the hospital’s former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali. He had alleged financial malpractices such as smuggling of unclaimed bodies, corruption in the disposal of biomedical waste and nepotism during Ghosh’s tenure as principal.
In fact, the body of a female trainee doctor was found on August 9 in RG Kar Hospital in West Bengal. It is suspected that she was raped and then murdered. There is an atmosphere of anger in the whole country regarding this. The protest against this incident continued for the 25th day on Monday. The striking doctors are demanding the suspension of former principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh, who is one of the suspects in the crime. Also, he is accused of financial scam in the institute. After the order of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI is investigating both the cases. The investigating agency continued questioning Ghosh on Monday and then arrested him late in the evening.
