Police in Gujarat’s Surat district have busted a major cyber crime network and arrested four members of a gang who were providing bank accounts to dispose of fraudulent proceeds. The arrested members had provided 623 bank accounts to transfer criminal proceeds of over Rs 111 crore to national and international cyber criminals. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.
Police officials said that one of the arrested accused is a resident of Mumbai. Officials said preliminary investigation revealed that the four accused arrested on Tuesday were part of a gang that worked with cyber fraudsters. He said that the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) has so far received 866 complaints against these cyber fraudsters. The officer said that 200 FIRs have been registered against these criminals across the country.
First 8 accused were arrested
In June, Surat Police had arrested 8 people involved in providing bank accounts to cyber criminals for depositing fraudulent money by taking commission. A police release said that interrogation of the eight arrested accused revealed that eight more people were also involved in providing such accounts, which are commonly used to launder the proceeds of cyber crimes.
Two of the absconding accused are in Dubai
According to the release, based on information received from them, police on Tuesday raided an office in Mota Varachha area of Surat city and arrested Ajay Italia, Jalpesh Nadiadara and Vishal Thumar. Another accused, Hiren Barwalia, was arrested at the Mumbai International Airport when he was trying to board a Dubai-bound flight, the release said. According to the release, four other accused Milan Vaghela, Ketan Vekaria, Dashrath Dandalia and Jagdish Ajudiya are still absconding. The official said that among these, Vaghela and Ajudiya are currently in Dubai.
