Police have detained seven youths for damaging a Ganesha idol at a Ganpati pandal in Kutch district of Gujarat and hoisting a religious green flag on a nearby temple. Giving information about this on Wednesday, a police officer said that three of the accused are minors.
Superintendent of Police (Kutch-West) Sagar Bagmar said that these incidents took place in Kotda-Jarodar village of Nakhatrana taluka on Tuesday, following which an FIR was lodged at the Nakhatrana police station late at night in view of the protest by the people. The officer said, ‘The local police started investigation on Tuesday evening after receiving information about damage to the Ganesh idol in the pandal due to stone pelting. Locals also told the police that some people have also put their religious flag on a nearby temple.’
The SP said that after investigation, the police have detained three minors involved in damaging the Ganesh idol. Four adults have also been detained for hoisting the flag on the temple. The officer said, ‘The situation is under control and additional police force has been deployed in the village.’
He urged people to avoid spreading rumours and also warned against sharing video messages that could disturb law and order. Earlier on Sunday, a similar incident had occurred in Surat city where violent clashes broke out after some people pelted stones at a Ganesh pandal. Later, the police arrested 27 people along with detaining six minors.
