Give three-four days time, Mamta Banerjee appeals to the doctors who are fasting unto death.

Most of your demands have been fulfilled, give me three-four months time to fulfill the remaining demands: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told the protesting junior doctors.

Everyone has the right to protest, but it should not impact health services: Chief Minister Banerjee told junior doctors.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appealed to the junior doctors to end their fast unto death.

The fast of junior doctors continued for the 15th day in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, demanding to ensure security against the rape and murder of female doctors. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has appealed to the doctors to end their fast unto death. He said, everyone has the right to protest, but it should not affect health services. Most of your demands have been fulfilled, please give me three-four months time to fulfill the remaining demands.

So far, six fasting doctors have been admitted to hospital after their condition deteriorated. Currently, eight doctors are on an indefinite hunger strike and have demanded the state government to take action by October 21 to end the deadlock. A doctor said that if his demands were not met by Monday, he would be forced to go on strike in the entire state on October 22.

A junior doctor said, ‘We want the Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee) to sit for discussion and fulfill all our demands.’ Many personalities from the theater world also went on a symbolic hunger strike on Saturday to express solidarity with the protesting doctors.

The protesting doctors also plan to organize a huge rally on Sunday to press for their demands. Their demands also include the removal of Health Secretary N S Nigam. Their other demands include setting up of a centralized referral system for all hospitals and medical colleges in the state, implementation of bed vacancy monitoring system and installation of CCTV cameras at workplaces, ensuring necessary provisions for ‘on-call rooms’ and toilets etc. Includes formation of workforce.

Following the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Hospital on August 9, junior doctors had ‘strung off work’ in protest against the incident. They ended their agitation on September 21 after 42 days after receiving assurance that the state government would consider their demands.
