Surat: Cybercrime cases are increasing continuously in Gujarat. Due to this, people are having to suffer financial loss as well as lose their lives. One such case has come to light in Surat. Here, a 23-year-old youth was trapped by thugs through social media by making obscene video calls and blackmailing him. Ultimately, the youth committed suicide by hanging himself due to fear of defamation. Police have detained two people including a minor in this case.
A fake account was created in the name of ‘Pari’
The arrested accused is a resident of Alwar, Rajasthan. His name is Barkat Ali. But on social media, he is ‘Pari’ for the people and this Pari has trapped many people in her net so far. This Pari also contacted a 23-year-old youth living in Katargam area of Surat through WhatsApp call. Both of them talked and then made a video call.
9 thousand rupees were swindled from a youth
After the video call, the boy got a video of him in which he was seen chatting nude. After this, this girl started blackmailing him. She threatened to make his video viral on social media if he did not give money. First she took 4500 rupees and then 3500 rupees and was constantly threatening him for more money. The young man finally committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan in his house on 9 September due to fear of defamation.

Anupam Singh Gehlot (Police Commissioner- Surat) said that the suicide of a boy from a normal family and of calm nature had become a puzzle for the police. Finally, when the family searched his mobile phone, they found out that he had a profile named Pari on his WhatsApp with whom he was chatting. There were nude photos and video calls of him in the chat. He was being blackmailed for money. The family contacted the police and informed them about this.
How did they do blackmailing
Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot said that these people make profiles of girls and send them on social media. If someone contacts them, they show obscene videos through video call and record them on another mobile. After recording, they start threatening. These people used to say that if you do not give money, they will send your video to your family and make it viral on social media.
Police got a big clue in the investigation
Seeing the seriousness of the case, the police started investigating and reached Alwar in Rajasthan in search of Pari. They did recce for five days and finally caught Pari alias Barkat Ali. In this case, a minor who provided the SIM card has also been detained. Surat Police is also appealing to the people who fall into such traps to not fall prey to blackmailing and contact the police. The police will investigate by keeping his name confidential and will save him from such blackmailers.
