Fire in steel plant in Hazira Industrial Area in Surat
Surat: A major accident has occurred in Surat, Gujarat. Four workers have died and one has been injured in a fire at a steel plant in Hazira Industrial Area. Officials informed that this accident occurred due to fire in a steel plant in Hazira industrial area of Surat, Gujarat on Tuesday evening.
Statement of Surat Police Commissioner came out
The statement of Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot has come to light in this matter. He said the incident took place at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India). “We have learned that the fire spread due to the sudden spillage of burning coal in a part of the plant. The resulting fire resulted in the death of four workers who were on the lift in the plant at the time,” he said.
The official said the incident would be further investigated by the police and also the factory inspector. However, no sudden death report has been registered yet. Of the four people who lost their lives, the bodies of three victims have been brought to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
A company spokesperson said in a statement that the incident occurred due to equipment failure at the Corex plant. He said that we regret to report an accident at the Corex plant due to equipment failure in AMNS Hazira operations. The accident occurred today around 6.00 pm during restarting of the unit after shutdown. Four contract employees of a private company are doing maintenance on a lift. The spokesperson said in a statement that these people were hit and could not survive.
The statement also said that one employee suffered minor injuries and was immediately shifted to a hospital on the plant’s premises and his condition is improving. We are extending full support to the families of the affected personnel. All emergency protocols were immediately activated and the area has been cordoned off. We are working closely with the relevant authorities on the ground and have launched an internal investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
