In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP had a tough fight with Congress in Hathin, Hodal and Prithla assembly constituencies of Faridabad district. In Hathin, Congress candidate Mahendra Pratap got 51,724 more votes than BJP candidate Krishanpal Gurjar. Similarly, in Hodal, the Congress candidate got 566 more votes than the BJP candidate, while in Prithla also the Congress candidate got 7,290 more votes than the BJP. BJP has MLAs on all these three seats. However, it is clear from these figures of the Election Commission that the influence of BJP was less in these areas and the support base of Congress had increased.
Challenges for BJP and the rise of Congress
In many assembly seats, BJP’s performance was weaker than in the last Lok Sabha elections, while Congress’s vote base increased. At the same time, Congress is preparing to contest the upcoming elections with even more strength in view of its growing vote base.
Congress had lost in NIT Faridabad
The Congress candidate lost the NIT assembly seat in Faridabad, which is held by the BJP. The BJP candidate won by 41,690 more votes. Political experts say that this defeat could be a warning to the Congress that they need to rethink their strategy.
