The Madhya Pradesh High Court will hear on Monday a petition seeking directions to stop the release of Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film ‘Emergency’. The film is stuck with the censor board. Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, is playing the role of former PM Indira Gandhi in this film, which is releasing on September 6. This petition has been filed by a Sikh organization.
Petitioner’s advocate NS Roopra said that Jabalpur Sikh Sangat has filed a PIL in the High Court against the film. It has been claimed in this petition that it is harmful to the society. The petition also demands that the film should not be released as it violates the fundamental rights of the Sikh community. This petition has been listed for hearing before the division bench on September 2.
Last Friday, Kangana Ranaut said that her film is still stuck with the censor board despite rumours that it has been approved for release. In a video message posted on X, Kangana claimed that she and members of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) have received threats. This is putting pressure on us not to show the murder of the former Prime Minister by his security guards.
Kangana alleged that she is getting death threats. This is putting pressure on us to not show Bhindranwale, not show the Punjab violence. This is unbelievable. While talking to PTI, BJP leader and former state minister Harindrajit Singh Babu said- Kangana Ranaut is now an elected member of Parliament. Members of the Sikh community of her constituency also voted for her. She should be sensitive.
