The monsoon which was sluggish for the last few days in Himachal Pradesh has become active again. Amid the yellow alert, rain has started in most parts of the state. Sirmaur has been receiving heavy rainfall since last night. Due to this, the rivers of the district are in spate. Due to the increase in the water level of Giri river in Shri Renuka Ji, two flood gates of Jaton Dam had to be opened to release water. Water was released from the dam at around 1:45 in the night. Due to this, the water level of Yamuna river has increased.

The weather has changed in the capital Shimla and it has been raining lightly since morning. For the last 3-4 days, people were getting relief from heavy rain due to sunshine in Shimla. Dense clouds have covered the plains and tribal areas of the state and there are full chances of rain.
Yellow alert for heavy rain today and tomorrow
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in the plains and mid-mountain areas today (Monday) and tomorrow. This may increase the troubles of the people. The department has predicted floods in eight districts during the next 24 hours i.e. till 5:30 pm on Tuesday. Flood warning has been issued in Mandi, Kangra, Chamba, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Kullu and Kinnaur districts. People of these districts have been advised to be cautious while leaving their homes. People have been instructed not to travel to landslide-prone areas and to stay away from rivers and streams. According to the department’s forecast, the weather in the state will remain bad till September 8.
Nahan and Naina Devi have the highest rainfall
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall of 143 mm was recorded in Nahan, the headquarter of Sirmaur district last night. Apart from this, 130 mm rain was recorded in Naina Devi of Bilaspur, 86 mm in Pachhad of Sirmaur, 72 mm in Paonta Sahib, 66 mm in Dhaula Kuan, 55 mm in Katola, 46 mm in Sundernagar, 34 mm in Pandoh, 33 mm in Chamba and 32 mm in Bharmour. The effect of thunder and lightning was seen in Kangra, Sundernagar and Palampur.

The administration has appealed to the people living on the banks of the Yamuna river to remain alert. The district administration has kept Police Station Renukaji, Police Station Puruwala, Police Station Majra and Police Station Paonta Sahib on alert along with informing them about the water released from the dam. Also, the villagers living on the banks of the river have been instructed to stay away from the river. A helpline number 1077 has also been issued for the people to deal with any situation.
109 roads including a national highway closed due to landslide, 427 transformers damaged
Road and transport system has collapsed again due to heavy rains in the state. According to the State Emergency Operation Center, vehicular movement on 109 roads has come to a halt due to landslides till Monday morning. National Highway-707 is closed in Handhar in Sirmaur district. The maximum 55 roads are blocked in Sirmaur, 23 in Shimla, 10 each in Mandi and Kangra, nine in Kullu and one each in Lahaul-Spiti and Una. Power supply is disrupted due to 419 transformers getting damaged due to torrential rains in Sirmaur district. 231 transformers are damaged in Nahan, the district headquarters of Sirmaur, 165 in Paonta Sahib and 23 in Rajgarh. Apart from this, six transformers are out of order in Kullu district and two in Chamba.
