Heavy rain in these districts of Himachal, what will be the weather next week; IMD's orange alert

IMD has given a big update regarding the weather of Himachal Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain for the next one week and has also issued an orange alert. Let us know the weather condition of the entire state.

Heavy rains lashed many parts of Himachal Pradesh and 135 roads remained closed in the state due to landslides and flash floods. There have been reports of damage due to heavy rains, landslides and flash floods in Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba and Sirmaur districts, but there have been no reports of casualties. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has given an update on the weather for the next one week. An orange alert has also been issued regarding heavy rains.

The Lahaul and Spiti Police has issued an advisory to residents and travellers to exercise extreme caution and not cross the Jahalman Nallah. The water level here is rising rapidly. The local weather office has issued an ‘orange alert’ for heavy rainfall at isolated places on Saturday and a ‘yellow alert’ for heavy rainfall till August 16.

Heavy rains lashed many parts of the state and since Friday evening, Nahan (Sirmaur) recorded the highest rainfall of 168.3 mm, followed by Sandhol 106.4 mm, Nagrota Surian 93.2 mm, Dhaula Kuan 67 mm, Jubbarhatti 53.2 mm and Kandaghat 45.6 mm. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, 135 roads were closed, including 42 in Sirmaur, 37 in Kullu, 29 in Mandi, 17 in Shimla, five in Kangra, four in Kinnaur and one in Lahaul and Spiti district, while 24 power and 56 water supply schemes were disrupted due to the rains.

The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning of mild to moderate floods in different parts of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur and Shimla districts till Sunday morning. The Meteorological Department has also expressed apprehension of damage to gardens, standing crops and kutcha houses due to strong winds and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

In view of the ‘orange alert’ for heavy rainfall in Hamirpur district on Saturday, Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh has appealed to the residents to be cautious and avoid going near rivers and streams. He also asked people not to take shelter under trees during bad weather and maintain a safe distance from electric wires. Officials said that between June 27 and August 9, more than 100 people have died in rain-related incidents and the state has suffered losses of about Rs 842 crore.
